We watched The Conjuring tonight and there were a few scenes that made me think of Season 1 of this series. And then look what shows up in my facebook feed!

I sorta loved The Conjuring and I'm not really a horror story person. I know that sounds silly because I just said I'm excited about AHS, but most of the typical horror that is churned out by Hollywood doesn't appeal to me as it tends to go more for splatter and shock rather than a good scary story. Conjuring was a ghost story, based on true events, just enough to make my heart race, my hair stand on end, and even cover my eyes a few times. But the ending was satisfying and it all made sense even after the credits had rolled. I guess I prefer horror that is more psychological. And I think I like ghost stories more than crazy murdering monsters.

ANYWAY - AMERICAN HORROR STORY! Are you a fan? I really loved Season 1 and 3, though I never did finish Season 2 (felt they went too far with the shock and lost sight of the story). What do you think about Season 4 premise?

Horror just isn't my cup of tea. I'm such a baby; these Hollywood scary movies still manage to freak me out. I saw a trailer for this horror movie before watching The Fault in our Stars last month and nearly peed my pants. :p

I get creeped out easy. I can already feel that I'm still creeped from Conjuring today...trying not to look at reflections for fear of a ghost being in the background LOL. But sometimes when a movie gets really good reviews, I suck it up and watch because at least I know it's high quality horror LOL.

I watch it with my hands next to my face the whole time, but still!

Sometimes the trailers are scarier than the movies!!!

I thought "The Conjuring" was really good too. Really effectively scary in some places.

Mike and I just started watching "American Horror Story." We've only seen two episodes so far. I like it well enough and think it's genuinely creepy, though I'm not fully engaged with it just yet.

The jury's still out for Mike on it. He likes horror, and I would have thought it was right up his alley, but his main complaint so far is he really hates the editing. He thinks there's too much going on, and there's too much ADD style scene cuts, and moving from story to story.

I think I started watching Season 1 after it had been on a few weeks so I was able to marathon a good chunk of episodes. Once you get a bit more of the story, you'll be sucked in. It takes them awhile to find their footing for the storytelling mode and they back off on the flashbacks a little bit.

The story for Season 3 focuses on a witch's coven, if you think that would be more interesting. I like that each season is it's own story and they didn't try to drag it out.

Glad you think it gets a little better as it goes on. I think Mike will be able to stick it out if things get more interesting.

I've seen AHS season one and three and liked them both. Haven't seen season two yet, though.

Season four looks promising. That commercial is creepy.

That teaser is confirmed to be fake. It's still rather impressive for being fan-made, though.

I loved the first season of AHS, and I quite enjoyed S3 as well (though I do wish certain outcomes didn't happen, and that the story could have progressed differently). I haven't seen much of S2 myself, either. It didn't impress me as much as S1 did, and I think it's because of how it was first introduced in the premiere, and the more I heard about what happened in the season the more it felt unappealing to me. I agree that it went too far with the ~shock value, because even though AHS is about that, they kind of did focus too much on it rather than the story. Perhaps I'll retry that season again sometime. But for me, S1 was the best season, and I really liked the concept of the third season, because I'm all about anything focusing on witches, witchcraft and sisterhood.

I guess I prefer horror that is more psychological. And I think I like ghost stories more than crazy murdering monsters.

I'm pretty much the same way. While I love the horror genre, and I don't mind good slasher and monster movies, I love me some good psychological thrillers. I love anything that kind of examines the human psyche and offers some good character study and even metaphors. I often go to foreign horror for those, though. A Tale of Two Sisters is one of the best psychological horrors I've seen, it's both scary and sad at the same time. Suicide Club and it's prequel/sequel, Noriko's Dinner Table, are another that I really love as it's more of a social commentary than anything. And while I don't necessarily classify it as horror per se, Ginger Snaps is one of the best werewolf movies in the history of werewolf movies, imho. Oh, and The Others. Very underrated, but still quite an effectively well-done ghost story.

I also love horror that is self-aware, like the Scream movies and A Cabin in the Woods was fantastically done.

Oh, and I quite enjoy horror video games, too. Like the ones that are atmospheric and immerse the player to their surroundings, such as Amnesia and Outlast.

I just love the horror genre.

Okay, THAT is amazing, that's fanmade. I see some commenters on the ONTD post assuming that's too high-quality to be fanmade, but let's be real: A lot of fans are artists too. Highly skilled and passionate ones who deserve to get their names out there. That's one reason I love strolling through YouTube for horror shorts. Some of them are crap, but some of them are amazing.

Well, they should hire that person right now to work on AHS because they've got the vibe down, that's for sure! LOL!

I keep thinking about going back to Season 2 and just watching the finale and then...then I decide it's probably not worth it. Jessica Lange is a force to be reckoned with though. I loved her and Angela Bassett in Season 3, just amazing.

I always felt like "The Others' got a raw deal, coming out right after 'Sixth Sense' so that everyone guessed the ending before the movie even started. If it had been distanced from that a bit more, I think it would have got a wider audience.

I <3 Cabin in the Woods. Mutant Enemy knows how to spoof horror <3 One of my favorites.

I like some horror a lot but the whole torture porn sub-genre is not for me. I like a plot which AHS provides. As does Hannibal (tv show and film series.) I can manage gore, but for me I need to see the point of it.

I am excited for the new AHS season. It's definitely going to scare me a lot but I'm going to love it just the same.

Yes, I can't stand torture of any kind, I don't want to see people die horribly. I don't mind if it happens off screen or really quickly, but I don't like it when the focus is on how awful the death is. Not my kind of thing.

Aww maaaan. I saw The Conjuring at the cinema, and was completely blown away. It's a modern horror masterpiece, I love it so much! (then again, I really do love my horror, hahahah). It just has a kind of craftsmanship that is rare for horror these days. If you liked it, I would really recommend Insidious - it's by the same director. SO GOOD. Unghhhh.

I've been keeping up with American Horror Story, but it's had its ups and downs. I enjoyed the first half-ish season or so of the first season, still came back for more for the second season and enjoyed that a whole lot more. The third season blew everything out of the water, and I think I'll pick that up on blu-ray when it's released here. I haven't seen the trailer for the fourth season yet, but I absolutely love the the setting! It sounds perfect.
