My birthday is next month and I haven't done a "question of the day" in awhile and I've got a few new friends on here so I've decided it will be a month ALL ABOUT ME!
ASK ME ANYTHING!
I've got 31 days to fill! Silly questions, serious questions, deep questions, not-so-deep, top ten lists, past, present, future, photo requests - WHATEVER YOU WANT TO KNOW!
Let's have some fun!

book cover meme, day 1
Feb. 20th, 2019 11:30 pmThere's a "post 7 book covers over 7 days" meme going around right now and you KNOW this librarian is going to get in on that action!
The whole deal is to just post the cover with no additional information...
but if you *ask* me about the book and why I picked it in the comments, I can't NOT not answer, right? (is that a triple negative? What does that even mean? I'm trying to be grammatically sneaky but instead I'm just concerned that I've negated my negative negative...)
ANYWAY - COVER 1!

icon memes
Jan. 30th, 2019 11:39 pmOh icons. They can say so much about us before we even make a post. So much of my LJ experience started when I began to make icons and share them. I met so many people that way because it was fun to look at people's creations and go "Oh hey, they are into the same shows I am!" and then you'd look at their LJ and then you'd become friends. It's the way social media should be!
ANYWAY -
silverusagi and
eowyn both posted icon memes this past week! They picked three of my icons each, so now I will give you the stories behind why I have them.
If you want me to pick 3 of your icons, let me know in the comments!
- Belle and her book. I do a lot of book reviews on my blogs, so I like to have plenty of icons with books/reading involved. And I think for a lot of people in my generation, especially girls, Belle is THE READER of our childhood. Plus, I love this part of the song, she is literally singing about reading beauty and the beast! And I made it myself :D
- I'm the Doctor! Matt Smith was my first Doctor. I had tried the first season and wasn't pulled in and sort of forgot about the show, but there was so much buzz when Matt started that I finally gave in and watched it. I loved that first season with him and Amy and Rory. It is one of the best seasons and I feel like I haven't enjoyed a season of Doctor Who as much since that one. So, yeah, he's my Doctor.
- White and Nerdy. It's a "Weird Al" song, a parody of "Rolling Dirty" I think (I have gotten to the age where I don't know most of the songs he parodies anymore). I love this play on the Wonderbread logo. I actually bought this as a t-shirt at one of the concerts but the white of the shirt got kinda gross in the armpits (TMI!!) I am a big "Weird Al" fan, as is my husband and we are both very white and nerdy.
- I Got Me Some Loot! - One of my LJ friends made back in the day.
spitefairy was like an LJ hero of mine because she made awesome icons and had so many friends and was as super geek like me. This icon of Jayne from Firefly is a go-to of mine when posting about new collectibles. :)
- Got Stress? - my oh so clever play on the "Got Milk?" slogon but with Beaker. Who doesn't love poor abused Beaker? I am a huge Muppets fan and I really should make more Muppet icons because I love Henson stuff.
- One Girl - BUFFY! If you know anything about me, it is that I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer the tv series (let's not talk about the movie...or the comics...). At one point, I made a theme based on the artwork from the Dark Horse comic series that came out after the show ended and this icon was part of that. If you've watched the first season, you know Giles talks about how the Slayer is "One girl in all the world that can stop the demons" so that is where the text came from. But if you've watched to the end of the show you know that we are all Slayers.
ANYWAY -

quick meme
Jan. 22nd, 2019 11:16 pmIt's getting late but I saw this meme posted by a few of you and thought I would post it real quick!
* Tattoos: 0 - I am a wuss and also have commitment issues so no way.
* Ever hit a deer: THANK GOODNESS NO! I'm not even sure what I would do.
* Ridden in an ambulance: No, but I've had to follow one before. :\
* Sang karaoke: Like, outside of my house? Because I played a LOT of Rock Band which is pretty much the same thing, right?
* Ice skated: Yes, but not in a looong time. At some point I got an irrational fear that I would fall over and someone would skate by and cut my fingers off.
* Ridden a motorcycle: No way. Doctors refer to them as "donor-mobiles" so 'nuff said.
* Stayed in hospital: Yes, but not for myself...
* Skipped school: ONCE! And my Mom dropped me off...I needed to camp out for Star Wars tickets!
* Last phone call : Wrong number because who the hell calls anyone anymore?
* Last text from: Syvlia asking me if I had watched Brooklyn 99. (this is another one of those shows that didn't pull me in at first but I know from gifs and what not that I would probably enjoy it if I watched beyond the first season)
* Watched someone die: No.
* Pepsi or coke: Dr. Pepper, please.
* Favorite Pie: Why choose??? As long as it has a delicious buttery crust, I'm happy.
* Favorite pizza: I tend to get supreme style with everything on it. But not too much.
* Favorite season: Fall - warm enough to be outside but cool enough that you're not melting if you do an activity, like hiking.
* Broken bones: Maybe? I hurt my ankle a few years ago and they x-rayed it and said it was a bad sprain but I really think there was a hairline fracture because it never healed right and it always looks swollen to me.
* Received a ticket: Nope. Pulled over a couple times, but once I think it was because I had a water bottle I was driving from while leaving a college campus and I think the cop thought it was *something else* and another time I think I might have been maybe speeding but I was so upset when the cop pulled me over, he let me off with a warning. I remember it was right after I moved out on my own and I hadn't updated my registration yet and that just made me cry even harder.
* Favorite color: Blue? Maybe? Green? Turquoise? Red? What am I doing with this color? I have favorite colors of clothes, different ones for accessories, mood, time of day. I'm fond of most colors.
* Sunset or sunrise: Sunset, as I'm more likely to be awake and aware. Sunrise means its time for work and that's not fun (plus the damn cats start meowing at me).

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
I enjoy them both, but I find that egg nog really hits my tummy hard (or maybe it is just that Tim is too generous with the Southern Comfort when he mixes it). So I'd probably opt for some nice hot chocolate.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Santa does NOT wrap presents! (I realized how genius this was of my Mom after trying to wrap some of the larger, awkwardly shaped presents I have purchased for people over the years).
( with photos because why not! )

Another end-of-the-year meme
Dec. 14th, 2018 11:13 pmIt's a classic! The first sentence of the first entry of each month. Let's see how this goes...
January 1 - According to GoodReads, I read 116 books this year.
February 1 - LOLOLOL oh this month was not so good for my reading.
March 2 - Just watched a couple more episodes and now I understand why they dropped the "for the straight guy" from the title.
April 6 - Went for quality over quantity this month. :)
May 5 - Yeah, BOOK. I only finished one BOOK in April.
June 1 - Don't worry, I haven't abandoned you! I've abandoned EVERYONE!!!!
July 9 - You probably didn't notice, but I haven't been online in awhile.
August 2 - Look at these beautiful people!! #SavetheExpanse #WeDidIt I'm so freakin' ready for 2019.
September 1 - Someone FINALLY made a decent looking site for tracking video games you are playing, making a wishlist and pretty much sorting it all like GoodReads, but for games.
October 4 - It was a whirlwind week and Canada was a little bit rainy but we still had fun.
November - Books Read in October
December - Okay, so it's not very many. One book was SUPER HEAVY and while it was a good read it was so depressing at times it was better to set it aside for awhile.
...in retrospect, this meme doesn't work if you are really good at always posting your booklists on the first of the month LOL. Makes for a boring "look back"...
I will find a better meme later...maybe
Side note: Tim has literally been sitting at his computer voice-chatting with the people in his Star Citizen Org for the past 4 hours. Hasn't played the game at all. It is kind of hilarious. He always tries to get me to play this game but I think that he really likes it for the social aspect and I've just never played games that way? I get my online socializing with strangers from you guys! He's a phone chatter too so which I have never been. It just amuses me and I thought I would share.

Back home again!
Oct. 4th, 2018 10:09 pmIt was a whirlwind week and Canada was a little bit rainy but we still had fun. More detailed update, right now I'm just unwinding from the car ride home. Just sped read all your entries (I had DW/LJ 91 emails!!!) so I'm going to relax with the popular meme going around right now:
→ Comment with "We're going to need more coffee"
→ I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can get to know you better.
→ Update your journal with the answers to the questions.
→ Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions.
carbonpaper asked me:
1. I know you like to draw, so what is your favorite thing to doodle?
Little goofy smiley faces. I'll have to doodle one to show you, but they tend to have big, round Muppet-y eyes and their hair is standing up or spiked ala Bart Simpson and usually their smiling with their tongue hanging out (i.e. making a crazy face which is why they are usually doodled in the margins of my meeting notes).
2. What was your favorite book to get at the library when you were a kid?
Hm...I feel like that question would be better for my Mom LOL. Honestly (and this will tie into the next question a bit) in middle school I was obsessed with The Beatles so I spent a LOT of time checking out anything and everything about them and pouring over the photographs and facts. So I am going to say Beatles books.
3. What made you want to become a librarian? Just a love of books?
NOPE! In fact, it is probably better if you don't love books too much if you work at a library because you have to throw away so many of them on a daily basis. It is my love of information, which is really what the core of libraries are. Information used to come from books exclusively, but that is obviously not the case anymore. We are trying to move our "brand" away from books 24/7/365 because it is just not true. **puts soapbox under the bed**
Anyway, I became a librarian because I found myself wanting people to ask me questions. I did start out in libraries, I was a Page all through high school and college, putting books away on the shelves. I quit that job and wanted to do something "cool" so I worked for a radio station right after college. But what I realized after awhile was that I wanted people to call in and ask me about the artists, to answer their questions and it slowly dawned on my that there was a job like that! So I made my way back to the library and worked part-time for a year to see if it was really what I wanted. And I've never looked back. And in two weeks, I'm going to interview for manager position **crosses fingers**
4. What has been your favorite concert experience? Worst?
I've been to so many shows, but a few stick out in my mind - my first Pearl Jam concert, which broke all the "Don't meet random internet people" rules...but she had an LJ and an extra ticket, how could she be bad? LOL. But what made the concert memorable was I spent the entire night jumping and singing along and the person next to me said "Wow, you're cool!" and that had never happened before LOL.
Worst would probably be when I saw Paramore at the Fillmore and this group of obnoxious, wasted assholes pushed their way in front of us well into the show and then were loud and obnoxious and drunk in front of me. I just don't have time for that kind of bullshit, I am there to enjoy a band and you are wasted, you should go to a wasted area and leave me alone. This is when I can get a bit "gatekeeper" and I'm like REAL fans don't get drunk at shows and ruin it for everyone! Blargh. I had not left a concert angry before until that one.
5. Do you like living in Maryland?
While it can get expensive, I really do like it because you can't beat the location. I can get to so many places if I just drive for a bit. Philadelphia, NYC, Boston, Atlanta, all driveable distances. History is just lying around, again in a pretty close radius. Stuff happened here and there is always something going on. And we tend to be pretty progressive, at least as a state, though parts of my county not-so-much but whatever, I work in a public library so lots of progressive/liberally minded people as my coworkers which keeps me sane.
Every now and then I ponder the idea of moving but I don't know where I would go. Maybe further north, I do like New England and I have friends up that way. But most places are either too far from anything or too crazy expensive - I mean, it might be fun to live in California for a little bit but I'm pretty sure no librarian could afford that LOL.

Inktober Day 3 "Poison"
Oct. 3rd, 2017 10:52 pmThis was the first image that popped into my head...clearly inspired by that moment in Disney's Snow White where she eats the apple and we just see it fall from her hand afterward.
I told my brother about Inktober and he sent me a random sketch for today's theme and it was almost the exact same image - hand, bottle. Sibling brainwaves, am I right?
One of my twitter friends was very worried when he saw this. He was like "are you okay???" but that at least made me feel like my drawing skills were decent enough!

#Inktober2017
Oct. 2nd, 2017 11:04 pmI used to doodle all the time when I was a kid. Drawing, like so many other things, was a great way to exercise my mind and feel good about the finished product.
Of course, then I encountered people with natural talent and it made me embarrassed and I kinda stopped doodling in public.
BUT NOT ANYMORE!
I'm not that great, but I want to start working on drawing again, if only to amuse myself. So here is my first drawing for Inktober2017:
The themes were "swift" and "divided" but my brain just came up with this. I'm sure if you stare at it long enough, the themes fit. :P
Tomorrow is POISON and I already have an idea...here's hoping I can get the picture in my brain onto paper!
Want to join in the fun? You can find the prompt list here or just draw what you want!

Oct. 2nd, 2016 03:08 pm![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
I stole this copy from my parents when I found it on the downstairs bookshelf in middle school. My Mom told me I would like it. I LOVED IT!
( picture of a well loved book )
I turn my camera on
Sep. 25th, 2016 09:41 pmI've seen this going around and I want to play too!
Ask me to take a picture of any aspect of my life that you're interested in - it can be anything from the house I live in to my favorite shoes. Leave your choice here as a comment, and I will reciprocate by taking the pictures and posting them as an LJ entry. Ask for as many as you want!

that high school meme
Jul. 22nd, 2016 11:40 am1. Did you know your spouse?
NOPE! He would have been in California and also he is 5 years older than so that would have been CREEPY!
2. Did you car pool to school?
Senior year I rode with my friend Katie a few mornings. She had this really OLD conversion van. But since I had lots of after school stuff, my Mom usually had to pick me up.
3. What kind of car did you have?
None, I didn't bother getting my license until after I graduated. First year of college I got my Dad's 1992 Ford Escort and I drove that until it died in the library parking lot in 2006.
4. What kind of car do you have now?
For a few more months, I have a 2006 Mini Cooper. We're looking at new cars now though...that's for another post...
5. It's Saturday night...where were you?
Probably at home catching up on the X-Files episode I missed because we had marching band on Friday night (actually, this was only an issue for the first half of high school, then they moved it to Sundays).

that book meme, 18-21
Jul. 4th, 2016 01:08 am18: Favorite booktuber(s) -- er, i don't watch any.
19: Book that you call your child. -- ?????? Oddly enough, as someone who gets oddly emotionally attached to pop culture all the time, I've never had a "book baby". I tend to stumble upon them and they are full grown by them so I can't look at them like a parent, just fan. :)
20: A character you like but you really, really shouldn't.
I am drawing a big ol' blank here LOL. How sad is that? I think of lots of protagonists that I like, but nobody that I "shouldn't" like.
21: Do you loan your books?
Sort of? I work at a library so usually I can just refer people there, but I do have a few books that I have purchased specifically to lend to my parents. When I was a teen, I loaned my books out all the time because I saw those people all the time! I guess I would lend a book to my coworkers now, though usually the library has it so no need!
