I have no interest in seeing A Fault in Our Stars. I'm not really a big John Green book fan (I've tried to read two of his novels and got annoyed/bored pretty quick) plus everyone says it's heartbreaking in a way I don't really want to experience...BUT I'm totally loving the soundtrack to the movie. Especially this song:

Not sure why, but it just makes me want to dance/bop/spin around.

Will definitely give this band a few listens on Spotify to see if I like their other stuff.

What's your song of the moment right now??

[livejournal.com profile] coco_waters asked Do you have a favourite fictional character from literature? What about this particular character makes them stand out to you? -- I’ve always had a crush on Ford Prefect from HHGTTG. Even before I saw the BBC Miniseries, I found his whole attitude for attractive. He’s a good guy, he just tends to be operating on a different level than everyone around him, sometimes he freaks out about the most random stuff and other times he is so perfectly calm when danger is all around. If I was going to be abducted by an alien, I'd want it to be Ford.

[livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly asked Favorite Video Game -- I'm going to have to go with either Bioshock or Bioshock Infinite. Both of those games are so beautiful, they have amazing stories, but they also have some challening gameplay. Bioshock pretty much taught me how to play an FPS on the new consoles because the story was so good I did not want to stop playing so I made myself learn. But Bioshock Infinite was just so well done, the whole look and feel, the story, and how it all fits into the mythology. Confession: I was so depressed after I finished Infinite, I bought myself a little Elizabeth action figure to love and squeeze because I didn't want to be without her.

[livejournal.com profile] coco_waters asked Where did you last go on holiday? BOSTON! And MAINE! and New Hampshire LOL! But you already knew about that, didn’t you? My whirlwind week in New England. I’ve never been good at sitting still so most of my vacations are actually adventures. We ate a lot of food, probably walked at least 5 miles a day in Boston, binged on video game madness on Friday, drove up to Maine and hung with my crazy aunt and uncles and grandpa for the day, then went to New Hampshire to see my BFF and visit "America's Stonehenge" (only go to American's Stonehenge if you get a deal off of Amazon Local...it's not really worth it otherwise. In fact, it's mighty sketchy! But we had fun being loud and cheap).

[livejournal.com profile] pleasant_valley asked If you could travel anywhere in time where would it be and what would you like to bring back? Don't you mean anyWHEN? And bring something back? No wait, I've read that short story where they step on the butterfly in the past and when they come back to the future, the entire world has changed! I would touch NOTHING! ...honestly though, I'm not sure if there is any time period I would want to experience that way unless I had The Doctor to make sure I didn't end up dead. It might be fun to go back in time and see The Beatles perform live at The Cavern.

[livejournal.com profile] coco_waters asked Favourite season/time of year? Spring, on the cusp of Summer. Nice warm weather. I hate wearing shoes and socks so I love sandal weather but still cool enough to have the windows open and do outside activities. I'm also very fond on the Summer-about-to-be-Fall time of year too.

[livejournal.com profile] rogueslayer452 asked What is your favorite song at the moment? Probably something by Bastille from the Bad Blood album, which [livejournal.com profile] lostacanthus got me for my birthday. Heavy Weight of Living tends to get stuck in my head a lot after listening to that album. And the opening track Things We Lost in the Fire:

I also love that Ain't It Fun by Paramore is getting so much airplay. I adore that band...well, mostly Hailey...and it makes me happy to hear it on the radio.

SNOW DAY!

orangerful: (omg ponies // orangerful)

We're supposed to get with 6-10 inches of snow tonight, plus bonus ice/freezing rain. My Dad was doing the happy!dance while we were out because the Federal Government already shut down tomorrow. And, low and behold, when I got home the library had already posted that we would be closed tomorrow! Usually they like to make us wait until 5am before they decide these things so it's nice to go to bed tonight **knowing** we are closed.

We saw The Chieftans tonight! My Mom has always been a fan of their music so I grew up with them as background to days spent at home when she had control of the stereo. Tim happens to be a fan too and a few weeks ago Living Social had a deal for 30% off tickets so I bought us a 4 (Tim actually asked if I wanted to invite my parents, which I thought was sweet). THEY WERE SO GOOD! They had some Irish Dancers on stage for several songs, a professional from New York and five adorable kids from a local school. One of the fiddle players and his brother also danced, though they were Canadian and called their dancing "Ottawa Valley Step Dancing".

I found a video from 2008, you gotta see these moves (drag it forward to 2:50 if it doesn't start there on it's own):

Anyway, if you get a chance to see them, I recommend it. So much energy and it was so fun. Even though it was in the Lyric Opera House, they made it feel like you were in a small Irish pub. Makes me want to go to Ireland and just hang out, ya know?

Tim has revealed that he has about 20 of their CDs hidden in his room somewhere so I am going to try to rip them all into my iTunes so we're ready for St. Patrick's Day. Or just days when you need some background music to whatever you're up to.

[livejournal.com profile] lostacanthus emailed this video to me and I had to share (mostly because I know [livejournal.com profile] poniesandphotos will dig it). I'm starting to really love this band. And I respect any band that can perform something 100% acoustic. (also the singer seems sorta nervous singing all alone with no microphone to hide behind and I always find that endearing in a lead guy)

orangerful: (music beatles jump // marshmallow)
Watching the "Grammy's Salute to The Beatles". The banter is pretty damn painful but I am enjoying the music. And holy shit Eric Idle looks so old. But I guess he is.

Dhani is the spitting image of George and it's so wonderful and weird at the same time. He sounds a lot like him too, when he speaks and sings. [livejournal.com profile] andy_wolverton and I actually saw him play a few years ago with Joseph Arthur and Ben Harper as part of the group Fistful of Mercy, which was fantastic. Intimate setting, in a synagogue actually, but it felt like a full on rock concert by the end, everyone up and dancing in the aisles/pews. I hope they make another album together.

Fistful of Mercy

Ed Sheeran is singing now and this would be my favorite song so far. I love hearing Beatles stuff stripped down and I think he is pulling it off.

Holy shit, Keith Urban is SHORT LOL! Well, John Mayer is also kinda tall. At least, I remember him being tall though maybe he was just doing that on purpose. Quit being taller than me! (so many mixed emotions about that man, not going to go into it now...bastard knows how to play guitar though). "Don't Let Me Down" is such a great song, something so raw about it, so pure yet at the same time kinda dirty...but the honesty of it all makes it less dirty? I dunno, love that song.

Katy Perry's Yesterday was okay, she didn't really do much to make it her own. Right now I'm gonna say Ed Sheeran wins this show.

oh damn, this is a fun version of "Revolution" - nice job Imagine Dragons!

OMG Dave Grohl, why are you so great? I wish more rock stars were like him. And "Hey Bulldog"??? SO RANDOM! But I have no problem with that because it really captures that weird middle sound when the Beatles were trying to figure out what was next. (OMG could his daughter be any cuter LOL)

ANY song Annie Lennox sings sounds amazing, period. Her voice. HER VOICE. I would be happy listen to her sing every single Beatles song. (her dress kinda looks like it was made out of duct tape though...). I wonder if the artists got to pick which songs they would perform or if CBS was like "you play THIS! NOW!" I love "Fool on the Hill" but I know most of the Magical Mystery Tour album is low on people's favorites list. If Annie picked it, it makes me love her more. (LOL okay Ringo just gave Paul a look, I wonder if Paul is singing along sorta loudly...you know, the way you would expect your 70 year old grandpa to sing along) (he's such a clean old man).

Alicia Keys has more style then EVERYONE IN THE THEATER. That hat. Awwwww yeah. Also, omg was John Legend a little bit nervous there? He was shaking. Aaaaw. Oooh I am digging Let It Be with two voices like this.

Just did a search on Amazon and I don't see any sort of collection of these songs available yet. Really, CBS? Actually didn't even see a DVD up or anything either. I'm surprised.

Aw, let Anna Kendrick sing! TEASES! Brad Paisley and Pharell Williams? Hm, okay.

My friend [livejournal.com profile] heiland_coo took me to Vegas for my birthday several years ago and I got to see LOVE. It was amazing and, I won't lie, I was crying by the end. So beautiful. If you ever get a chance, go see it. The album is fantastic, but the visuals of the show are just a crazy journey through the Beatles entire career.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps -- oh when I was a kid, I just didn't get this song, it freaked me out, the rhythm, the lyrics. They seem so simple but they are really so clever and complex. I love this song now.

Ringo's turn. He sounds pretty good considering his age and, ya know, the smoking etc. Boys seems a little slower but then again, so is he. :) Love ya Ringo.

OMG there was Sean...looks just like John.

LOL looks like Paul is already bouncing behind Sean Penn, ready to play. What a goof. I've seen him live twice and he was a lot of fun.

Sgt. Pepper - had to be played. And, yeah, Paulie it IS weird to tribute yourself. But that never stopped you before LOL. <3 Ringo does seem a bit out of breath. But this is awesome. I'm a sucker for a huge Hey Jude sing-along, I won't lie.

Aw, it's over? Well, it was fun while it lasted. I hope they release a few of the covers as mp3s or something. Wouldn't mind having them in the mix.

This sounds much more like the Panic! I know. Album is out Tuesday in OCTOBER OH WTF!! YAY!
orangerful: (:O // orangerful)

Even if you're not a Mumford & Sons fan, this is amusing because...well, just watch for a minute...
orangerful: (music nat tune in // orangerful)

So...this is the new Panic! At The Disco song...which sounds a little too much like a Fall Out Boy song to me.

Vices & Virtues is my favorite album by then, and it's probably in my top albums list. I just love the flow of the whole thing. This song isn't doing anything for me. Maybe when I hear it in the context of the album...

Honestly though, the first time I heard it, I ended up humming the new Fall Out Boy song afterwards. I like FOB, but prefer Panic.
orangerful: (rock and roll baby!)
I was ready to post a ramble about 'Firefly' (OMG TEN YEARS???) and then about 'Argo' (OMG AWESOME!) then I looked at the clock and realized I better get my sleepy self into bed!

So, instead, I give you a new MIKA song because MIKA makes me happy
