orangerful: Santa Yoda felt your presents (star wars)
Untitled

I watched the series finale for Star Wars Rebels this morning. I didn't expect it to be quite so emotional at the end, though John Williams' scores tend to give me feels when they are just playing on a stereo, so that and solemn looks from Sabine were enough to make me fight back tears.

This show started out kinda rough, I wasn't sure I was going to like it. The first season was a lot of adventure-of-the-week stories and it felt like a kids show. Nothing wrong with that, Star Wars is for everyone, all ages, and I thought perhaps it wasn't meant for me. But by the end of Season 1, the character development was starting to show - the writers had no intention of letting them stay static cookie cutter characters, they wanted them to grow and change.

By season 4, they really have. Ezra has gotten better at controlling his anger. Sabine has learned, not just how to be a part of a team, but also how to lead one too. Hera and Kanan...*sigh*

I'm sure the ending probably drove some people crazy, the few things they left hanging in case they ever wanted to return to this group. But I appreciated everything not being tied up in a perfect bow.

So long Rebels. You set the bar high for the next round of Disney Star Wars cartoons.

SPOILERY SIDE NOTE (don't read if you're not caught up!!!)

Christmas has come and gone but I'm only just now really getting to go through all my goodies and play with them! But I thought before I disappeared into the DVDs and Xbox land, I'd share with you what I got! In Pictures!

First, Star Wars!!! My mom got me the most awesome Star Wars Pop-Up book, AD snagged me a cool Clone Wars Yoda patch and Yoda sticker PLUS an AT-ST model (he also got me some paint and glue to put it together with!) and his mom put a plug & play Star Wars video game in my stocking!

so I don't flood your flist with my toys )

Please PLEASE stop making these stupid, "Unrated" editions of perfectly good comedies!!! I just went to go look for a widescreen version of 'Knocked Up' on Amazon to put it on my wishlist, and of course, the "Collector's Edition" is the stupid unrated version.

Ugh, they did this with '40 Year Old Virgin' and 'Anchorman' too. And I like having all the extra features on my DVDs, I enjoy watching them. So I want the DVD that will give me the most extra features for later. But that DVD, it seems, will not actually contain the movie I viewed and enjoyed. It will contain a film that is very similar, but with jokes that were originally CUT inserted back into the show, thus messing up timing/speed/humor etc. -- all the things that make a comedy work.

I was just thinking about this because I lent a friend '40 Year Old Virgin' on DVD. I saw this movie in the theater, loved it, bought the collector's edition (aka Unrated) DVD. Which has nice bonus features but STUPID jokes that were not in the original movie. So now, I'm realizing why she probably didn't think it was as funny as I did - because we did not see the same movie.

And now, this can happen with 'Knocked Up'. And probably the same treatment will be given to 'Superbad' -- Look people, if Disney can make it so I can turn off the extra song on the 'Beauty and the Beast' DVD and watch the movie without it, then you can find a way to let me skip the "new scenes" when I just want to watch the regular movie.

*sigh* Maybe I'll just get the regular Widescreen edition...all I really want is the gag reel and commentary tracks...I supposed I can live without the deleted scenes and general goofiness that I'm sure they will create to fill a second disc.

O.M.F.G!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Young Indiana Jones DVD set looks AWESOME! Well, awesome if you love bonus features! It looks like each episode has a TON of bonus features! Edutainment at it's finest!

*sigh* I'm such a nerd. I cannot believe how excited I am about this!

AND they gave us a release date for Volume 2 - Dec 18th. Plus they promise the 3rd set by spring 2008.

It's going to be a very Indy christmas....

More Indy!

In other fandom news - more information has surfaced about the Young Indiana Jones DVDs coming out later this year.

According to TV Shows on DVD.com:
First of all, this is a massive set of 12 discs. Considering the running time of the featured episodes is only 649 minutes (less than 11 hours), then you just know the rest of that DVD space is taken up with the extensive historical documents George Lucas and Rick McCallum have been promising us for years.

Rumored suggested retail price - $117.99 US - but it's not up for pre-order yet so no idea what the Amazon price will be.

Sean Patrick Flannery was one of my first poster boys. Though it might have been the Superman/Robin Hood syndrome - dress a guy up like Indiana Jones and his hotness level rises. Still, I rewatched a lot of the Young Indy episodes (because, even then, I was such a fangirl that I taped as many as I could) and they were enjoyable even years later. I can't wait to see the ones that I didn't get a chance to tape and didn't get to buy on VHS.

October 23rd is the release date. Which means I will probably wait and ask for Santa to bring them to me.

Well, for a "Free Comic Book Day", we ended up spending a little bit of cash when we went out.

First, I did my run after [livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest called to remind me. Dashed down to Twilite Zone comics and got my free copy of Xmen/Runaways by BKV, the Star Wars comic, and an Archie comic for [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy. Then I made the mistake of browsing. They had the latest 'Nextwave' so I snagged that. And I noticed the two TPBs of 'Y THe Last Man' that I was missing soooo snagged that too. So now I have 1-6 and am waiting impatiently for 7 to come out next month.

Then I went to Target. The new 'Dinosaurs' DVD was there so I grabbed the last copy. I also noticed that the Veronica Mars dvds were on sale for $23...which sounded like a very good price but I wasn't sure if it was less than the all mighty Amazon.com, so I decided to double check when I got home.

So I went home and told [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy about the VM dvds and saw that Amazon actually wanted more for them, so we ran back over to Target and grabbed a boxed set, and on the way to the checkout they also had the Wallace & Gromit adventures DVD for $10! *yoink*

Then we bought snacks and drinks because Bill & Beth were coming over to hang out, so cha-ching there. And then we did sushi for dinner.

All in all, not our cheapest weekend. But we had a lot of fun with Bill & Beth so that worked out. I kicked MAJOR butt during Tripoly. Didn't do quite as well at Mario Party 6. Mario Tennis and Mario Golf I'd say I was about average.

Anyway, the moral of the story is - [livejournal.com profile] orangerful should not go into a comic book store the day after payday.
