I signed up on the official NaNoWriMo site saying I would try to write a "novel" this month but I also just signed up on [livejournal.com profile] mini_wrimo to at least write 100 words a day. Probably a more realistic goal since I haven't written anything besides blogs for over two years. I like that they give you daily inspiration so hopefully that will help me stay motivated.

Anyone else attempting to NaNo this month?

Well, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo and I have completely failed to write ANYTHING.

I had lots of big plans to team up with [livejournal.com profile] caroljen and do this whole flip/flop story, sorta like sliding doors, with the same characters but taking different paths. But it turns out writing a story like that takes a lot more prep! Then I was sorta out of it for most of last week We had Hurricane Sandy (nothing really bad in the Maryland area, thank goodness). I had two big things at work (lead a training and did an interview) and to top it off, my sinuses went crazy in a way they never have before and I was getting dizzy. Took me 3 days to deduce that it must be a sinus thing. Thought I was good to go today, but the dizziness came back about 8pm so I took another decongestant. :(

Election day tomorrow. I'm scared. The library was an early voting location and it was nuts all last week (when we were open). I'm hoping that since there are more polling places open tomorrow, it won't be quite so insane. I'm also scared of the results. This is Maryland's turn to vote on the same-sex marriage thing...I'm hoping the state doesn't embarrass me. We also have something on the ballot to expand where casinos can be built, which I'm like "hey, let's see how the one you JUST BUILT does before we start bulldozing more trees."

[livejournal.com profile] maybedeadcat got me back in to Walking Dead though I haven't seen this week's episode, which I guess was epic. I'm still sorta annoyed with the characters but at least things are happening. It's beyond what I read in the comics so at least things feel like surprises, or, at least, I'm not waiting for things to happen.

Okay, time for bed. Last week was so weird and all over the place, plus the time change, I feel like I don't know what day it is!

Well, so far so good - managed to write at least 100 word for each day this month. I'm using my poor, neglected Dreamwidth account as my writing journal if you want to take a peak. I'm not doing a whole story, mostly just trying to stretch out my creative writing muscles since I have not used them in so long. Might go back later and expand on them but right now really is just seeing what happens when I try to write. It's good for me :)

Have my Star Wars program at the library on Saturday which I am mostly prepared for. It's hard to prepare for an event when you have no idea how many people will show up. So I have two plans - one for a small group and one for a large group (let them run WILD!) *crosses fingers it goes well*

Going to have lunch with [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly tomorrow :) Excited to see her since she has now moved to the MD. I think we need to get [livejournal.com profile] lostacanthus, [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly, and [livejournal.com profile] colls over for a Maryland livejournal rock band meet up at my place :)

I watched a bit of disc 2 of Ken Burns' Prohibition special the other night and had to LOL - when the act was passed, they had doctors prescribing MEDICINAL WHISKEY! I was lol'ing because, seriously, history repeating is always hilarious. Also, I had to laugh that originally it was just hard liquor that was going to be banned, then some dude ninja'd in the part about "anything intoxicating" and everyone was all "OH WTF!" It's not the best Ken Burns special ever, but it's still edu-tainment and it's how I prefer to learn my history - by having Peter Coyote & co. read it to me while I look at photographs and then fall asleep in bed.

Picked up the weekly Buffy viewing again with [livejournal.com profile] maybedeadcat this week. We're almost done, this week was Season 7's Showtime with OMG BABY!FELICIA DAY! That rainbow beret..wow...and matching sweater. WHY? WHY DID THEY DO THAT? Anyway, this season doesn't feel as painful as I remember...maybe it's because I know where it's all heading.

Is anyone watching American Horror Story? One of my co-workers was talking about it today and it sounds...intriguing...if really really fucked up. Curious but also a bit scared to watch the pilot!

I think I burned my tongue the other day on some hot fish & chips...really hurts...probably doesn't help that i keep playing with it...still...OWIE!

So, I tried doing NaNoWriMo in 2009 and it did NOT go well at all. You can see me fumbling around on my dreamwidth blog.

Anyway, this year I'm thinking I might at least try to WRITE something in November, but not get bogged down with the whole "novel" idea. Writing anything would be good. I found a Writing Prompts site that I bookmarked ages ago and I think I'm going to use that and post something, ANYTHING, each day to practice my creative writing skills, which I have not even touched since...well 2009. And that was barely a touch, more of a poke. Er...wait, that sounds wrong...

I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] mini_nanowrimo - played it safe and just did 100 words per day. I think I can handle that!

I'm hoping maybe [livejournal.com profile] andy_wolverton will think this is a good idea too because then we can encourage each other. :)

Erm, I may or may not have lost interest in the first story I was writing. I may or may not also have rotted my brain with hours of "Legend of the Seeker". Either way, here are the first 2,000 words in a new story I just started. I have a plot idea of this one...well, more of a plot than I did for the last one.

apparently I like to write in first person )

Here goes nothing!

If you're doing NaNoWriMo too, please be my writing buddy! Find me here!

(and, no, I still have no idea what I'm going to write about...hopefully inspiration will strike SOON!)

So, I think I'm going to sign up for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). November 1st is the start date, then you write until the 30th or 50k words - whatever happens first.

I spent a good portion of today at work, trying to figure out what to write about (it was really slow at the library). I stressed over plot and conflict and ended up freaking myself out. Then I came home and told AD how I just wanted to write a story about a geeky female gamer, like myself, and he said "just write!" and I realized that DUH it's my first try, it's not going to be good, it's just going to be!

I'm feeling a bit better about it now. I'll just start typing a little bit, every single day in November, and maybe I'll grow a plot as I play with my character.

Yay, I can finally use my Dreamwidth blog! Don't worry, I'll link my entries to LJ for those of you brave enough to read my writing.

*sigh* I used to be good at it. Just like I used to be good at drawing. But then I hit this age where you start to see what other people can do, and I just gave up on a lot of stuff. I was like, that person can do it and they are doing it better than me, so why compete? Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't given up at the first time of competition. If I just kept drawing/writing/acting even though people around me were better at it...

ah well, wouldacouldashoulda, just gotta Carpe Diem, yes? SIEZE THE FISH DAY!

Or, month, as it is in this case. :)
