it's not buying again, it's upgrading.
Apr. 21st, 2009 11:54 pmSo, now that we have the PS3, the urge to buy everything in blu-ray format is very strong. At first, I was going to resist, but now I want to see how pretty my movies can really be.
We watched Blu-Ray 'Iron Man' on Sunday night. I even put on my glasses to get the full effect. It seemed clearer. The sequence that really stood out to me was when Iron Man makes his first appearance and flies out to fight the terrorist baddies. During this scene, there is ash raining down from the sky. I never really noticed it before, but on the blu-ray it was very clear. I know that is just a little thing, but it was when my brain finally said "whoa, this IS better".
Yesterday, AD put in our regular Iron Man DVD, just to see how big a difference it was. WOW. Looking at the regular DVD, it was clear how much better the blu-ray image is.
So now I want to see my other movies and see how much better they look and sound on blu-ray. I guess this is really the first big media format change I've been through as an adult. I mean, the big cassette to CD and VHS to DVD happened when I was a kid/teen, so it wasn't me paying for yet another copy of Star Wars or Sting album. But now I will know the confusion of deciding what needs to be upgraded, and what can wait.
Amazon has the Lord of the Rings trilogy available for pre-order on Blu-Ray. GUH - WANT! Frak that, just noticed it was THEATRICAL and not the extended versions, which I prefer. Blah.
A blu-ray collector's set of Battlestar Galactica has been announced but I am of two minds about that. Part of me is spazzing like a fangirl. But the other part of me, the part that has purchased s1-s4.0, plus Razor, is worried that this will not be the definitive set and in a few years time maybe another, better, boxed set will be released. Someone get Ron Moore on the phone and ask him if they have put everything they can into this set!
dexterette and I were discussing this on her LJ and unless they can convince me that they haven't just copy+pasted all the content from the original dvd releases, but have actually added new stuff, I'm probably gonna hold off on this one.
I think if we buy any boxed sets in blu-ray, the first purchases will be Band of Brothers and Firefly because from all the reviews I've read, they took special care in the transfer of both of these programs.
So, yeah, I dunno. I feel like I should hold off on buying anything else this month but at the same time we have this powerful hi-def machine and I want tos ee everything in hi-def NOW! haha. Life is rough.
