Apollo made the mistake of walking by while I was trying to take my selfie so I tackled him! This is his “why me?” face. #cats #selfie

June 26 selfie

Wanted to be fair and get Starbuck in the picture but she was not having it. She ran away, jumped in this box and then, even as I gave her scratches, she turned her face away from the camera! #cats #selfie

Just started this book a few nights ago, only 30 pages in an it is already got me! Creepy sci-fi! #books #selfie

What the heck, it has been over 10 days since I rambled about something on here? That's crazy LOL. Though I have been goofing off and playing a lot of Zelda. Last weekend I was supposed to meet up with my friend for a girl's weekend but she caught The Bug that has been going around so instead I just took the time off to chillax at home, watch all the movies that came in for me from the library and generally not stress about anything.

The week before I took my dufus cat to have some major dental surgery. He seems to have recovered but it will take my wallet 6 months to get over it. Both him and his sister suffer from Tooth Resorption, a weird cat tooth thing that no one really understands but they pretty much have to go in and get rid of what is left of the teeth once it happens because it is so painful. But since I am a horrible cat-mom and never took them to the vet on a regular basis until now, things were pretty bad in there. And Apollo lost a lot more front teeth than Starbuck did so it was a little more intensive and a little more money. But he was pretty much fine as soon as the drugs wore off and he could stand up. He immediately began crying for food (since he had to fast the whole day before) so I knew he was going to be okay. I take him in again on Friday for a final check up. I now also have a small pile of cat teeth because the dentist offered them to me and I was so amused I took them. I guess I could use them for a library program LOL. SCIENCE!

Speaking of, we had our "Slime Time" program at the library yesterday since the kids had an early dismissal from school which always means we have parents desperate for entertainment. We had to cap the program at 25 kids because I wanted controlled chaos. Because I always want to make the library events more than what they might do at home, I spent the first 20 minutes talking about the science behind slime, asking the kids about the states of matter and things like that. I told them they were not just kids goofing off with slime, they were chemists experimenting with non-Newtonian fluids! They thought that was great. It all went really well, though I had one girl get a little over zealous with the red food coloring and her side of the table looked like a scene from 'Hannibal'. Luckily, I was able to get it all cleaned up with a few paper towels and the cleaner spray.

I'm all caught up on everyone's entries - I didn't read my flist while I was off last week and I got WAY behind and you all filled up my inbox haha. I think I might need to bump up my Dreamwidth to a paid account so I can get more emails, they apparently limit it for the free account.

Saturday we went to see the Free-For-All production of 'Twelfth Night' at the Shakespeare Theatre in D.C. I invited along [livejournal.com profile] andy_wolverton and his wife Cindy since neither of them had seen any live Shakespeare before (I know!). What a production! I had seen this production staged the year before and I think I might have preferred this cast (shhh!). They were spot on with every scene.

Honestly, if you have any free time in the coming weeks and want to go hang out in DC for a day, I suggest you try go get tickets. It's totally free, you just have to stand in line early, then you go and wander around the museums in the area and come back for the show later.

Sadly, Sunday was not as fun. Poor Apollo had to go to the vet because we suspected he was peeing on clothes. When I Googled the issue, all signs said to take him to the doctor. Luckily, Banfield had an opening. Turns out he was having all kinds of trouble, but a trouble that is apparently very common among boy cats, especially neurotic ones like Apollo who worry about EVERYTHING. The Vet had to squeeze him until he peed. She told us to keep him on his own for the next two weeks an monitor him. We have a VERY exciting week ahead of us. (the only plus side I could think of was I could finally get revenge on those people on FB who post their child's bowel movements as status updates...)

BUT the good news is that today seems to have been a good day for Apollo. Even though he's been in solitary confinement, the litter box has been used, which means no emergency room visit. Still, gotta keep 'im separated for the rest of the week, doctor's orders. Starbuck isn't too happy with the situation either since we gave Apollo the bedroom and she likes to sleep with us. She will have to just chill for a week though.

I tried to go to Target today and return stuff after having buyers remorse over some Toy Story impulse purchaes ($13 for Evil Doctor Porkchop was a bit much). But I made the mistake of going back to the toy aisle before I left and ended up spending all the money I had gotten back (though I also bought some cat food in that purchase so really I only spent about half of the return money on more toys...). Scored a Snowbunny Padme for myself and [livejournal.com profile] jellibean, plus the Galactic Heroes Replublic Commandos (because that game rocked) and the new Clone Wars Yoda figure because, HELLO it's YODA (though I need to compare him to the other one I have...if he's exactly the same except for the packaging, I'll take him back since I'm an opener).

OH and I'm thinking of being totally NUTS and applying for a 20-hr/week position with Ask Us Now, the online reference service. They need an Assistant Operations Manager and I can do about 90% of the stuff on the resume and 10% I have lots of confidence I can learn. It would be ridiculous but fun, it's mostly managing online resources which you all KNOW I can handle.

But now I am tired. Two glasses of wine and a full tummy and I'm totally zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

if you're not watching my graphic comm [livejournal.com profile] orangerfulboxes, you might want to know that I just posted two Guild wallpapers (well, I know [livejournal.com profile] theoldmelody would want to know!)

We're going over to AD's brother's place for dinner tonight since his mom is visiting from Florida. We're gonna take over the Xbox and show them Beatles Rock Band, which means I will probably come home with photos of my 3 year old nephew banging on the drums. Thank goodness for no-fail mode!

Starbuck thinks she is a tiger today. Caught her trying to climb up the lattice we put on the deck (the lattice AD got specifically to keep them from falling off the deck). I threw water at her to try to get her to climb down but apparently it's just too much fun because she keeps going back for more. I put her little rug outside so they would have something warmer to sit on than concrete and she crawled under it *facepalm*

Apollo just gave us a scare. We went to Giant and came back and couldn't find him. We figure he either fell off the porch and we didn't notice (or he was hiding behind the plant and we didn't know he was out there) or he ran out the door while we were trying to chase out a bee from the apartment.

After searching the apartment frantically for 20 minutes, AD looked at the bottom of the stairs. He found Apollo hiding in the corner. He's all filthy and clearly upset (he won't eat the big pile of cat treats I just dumped on the floor for him) but he doesn't seem to be hurt or anything. Poor baby. Don't think he'll be going out on the porch any time soon.

So, I had a bit of a breakdown this morning due to still being tired from my road trip and not caught up on sleep. Starbuck and Apollo were running around the house at 7:45am. I sat down with my bowl of cereal. Starbuck came dashing around the corner at top speed chasing her brother. He ran over my feet, Starbuck jumped from the ground, to the couch, and then directly into my cereal bowl which splashed all over the table and me. For some reason, this broke my brain. AD came running out to see what happened and I just started to cry. Eventually I calmed down, and then he pointed out that I was, in fact, crying over spilled milk.

Anyway, when I checked my email later, this was in the inbox:

Apollo and Starbuck have successfully found my desk and my BSG mini-mates have taken a hit. The worst part is that now that they have been knocked out of place I can see how DUSTY my desk is...now I must wipe it down. Not sure if I should re-locate the figures until they are done exploring my desktop or what.

First in what I'm sure will not be the last of "OMG MY KITTIES ARE SO CUTE!" picture and video collection (we found out the digital camera has a video function).

AD finished setting up cardboard around all of our computer and tv wiring so the two of them have explored the entire apartment now. Apollo is currently passed out on the floor, Starbuck is passed out next to AD.

I'm so happy we got them both. They have been playing together and encouraging each other all day. Starbuck is...well, she's like Starbuck! She charges into the situation, checks out all the cool hiding places, and knocks stuff over. Apollo is a bit more cautious. He doesn't go into the dark spots first, he prefers to check out the more open areas. He would slowly check out the living room then RACE back into the bedroom. He seems okay with everything now though.

Anyway - CUTENESS UNDER THE CUT!

Starbuck and Apollo are officially home now. They have been playing for about an hour. We've got them in the bedroom with one of those child-safety gates keeping them from the rest of the apartment. Don't want to overwhelm them. Plus, we need to figure out a way to hide some of the wires so they don't chew on anything and get zapped.

They found the two Harry Potter wands my uncle made me that fell behind my dresser. And they are enjoying hiding under the bed and trying to grab the other one. They are both adorable.

As soon as they hold still, I'll try to get some pictures. Right now I just get a little dark blur or a little light blur when I try to snap a photo haha. They are very quick. I figure they will need a power nap eventually!

I will need to make a kitty icon for these posts...
