HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!

I'm planning on spending my halloween relaxing at home (since I work until 5) and possibly wearing kitty cat ears around the apartment just to amuse myself. Probably round off the whole night with some trick or treating in Stormwind.

I'm at the library right now, with my halloween bracelet and rings on. My cat ears are downstairs in my bag, but I paniced when I didn't see anyone else dressed up. But now that I'm out on the floor, one of the other librarians is all decked out in cat gear, so I'll have to put mine on after lunch.

*sigh* I miss halloween in a neighborhood. I miss the little kid trick or treaters. They were always fun. Last time I handed out candy, I had my halloween mix going in the background, playing twilight zone and psycho and things like that. I even tossed in Buffy and Angel for good measure, cuz, you know, they can be scary! It's always fun to see who people dressed up as.

Halloween is right around the corner and we have nothing planned. Rufus Wainwright is playing in downtown DC that night, but I'm a bit scared to go into downtown DC on halloween, and even more frightened of Rufus fans who dress up haha. I mean, Rufus wears an ascot on a normal day, lord knows what will happen on halloween! ;)

btw, if you need a cheap costume and have a color printer, starwars.com has has got you covered

Scheduled my interview for the library position today. November 15th. I'm a little upset because the branch that I wanted to work at has already had it's position filled with a transfer. So I'm sorta dealing with leftovers. One of the leftovers is only 15 minutes away though! So that would be nice. I've never been there, so I need to go over and intoduce myself. There's also a Job-Share, but I don't think you get benefits with a Job-Share and that's my big goal so my parents can stop fussing about that. Plus it would be nice to have a steady paycheck instead of the "wait, how many hours did I work last week?" check. hehe. So far, I haven't really had any money issues, but I would like to buy a new car and stuff like that, so it would be nice to have a number to start with when figuring out my budget.

Okay - fun time! [livejournal.com profile] sideflip tagged me, and it's relatively slow on the desk...soooo

Have any of you ever heard of 'Sudoku'? I was just informed it's all the rage! So I'm attempting to do an easy puzzle now. I think my brain has gotten to the point where it just sees numbers and panics because its taking me awhile to wrap my head around it all. But if you like logic puzzles, you'll probably enjoy these.

Here's a website with free puzzles - http://www.websudoku.com/

EDIT: It took me 44 minutes to complete my second puzzle. I did it online though, which means I can cheat and have the computer check! xD

Library is slow this morning, as is to be expected on a Wednesday. But to make it worse, the station I picked to sit at has sloooow internet. That, or it's just the sites I want to go to, like hotmail and the DCSWCC forums. How can I kill time without fully functioning internet!

I'll tell you how, by ordering even more graphic novels. I went and googled like mad until I found the website for the comics course at UMBC. And just as I'd hoped, the booklist was up there, so I've been ordering the books that I haven't read it. Funny part is, I'd already read 5 of the 9 core readings!

What I really want is the course itself though. You know, you watch Citizen Kane because you know it's important for some reason, but you really don't understand why it's important until you read a history of film book and find out it was the first time the flashback was used and yadda yadda. I'd love to get ahold of a book like that; something that explains why The Watchmen is considered such an important comic or why Bone is so popular. Something that discusses the superhero comics AND the not-superhero comics (stuff I prefer). Because I have a feeling I'm missing something.

We watched the first 20 minutes or so of Jurassic Park last night with dinner. First, I need to get that movie on DVD because my video looks horrible. But anyway, I have so many memories connected to that movie. It came out when I was 12 years old, and I remember being really worried that my friend Tara and I wouldn't be allowed in the theater since it was rated PG-13! haha. It was the first movie I remember seeing multiple times in the theater; I had to have seen it at least 7 or 8 times. I remember taking everyone I knew. I probably still have the ticket stubs somewhere (it was the start of that little habit too). It was also the first film with all that "Dobly 5.1" sound! Oh, the T-Rex's roar, made my body shake...I LOVED IT! All those new sound systems had just been installed and they worked so well. Now they are so common place and no one seems to really take care of them.

Speaking of movie memories, I just had this image of 'beauty and the beast' in my head...the Disney one. I remember taking my grandparents to see that movie when it came out, and I was so excited about it. It was the end where the beast has been stabbed by Gaston and he's lying on the ground and Belle is crying and I remember, as a kid, you're really wondering if he's gonna make it or not. So I'm sorta watching my grandparents reaction to see if they are shocked by what looks like his impending death. Then some kid behind me says "He's Okay, just watch, he's fine!" to their friend and I was infuriated. I remember being on the verge of tears at having heard the "surprise" ending and knowing it had been "spoiled" for my grandparents. Looking back now, I realize that was ridiculous because no Disney film would kill off the lead and there was no way it was that big a deal to them.

I've been anti-spoiler ever since then I guess. I refuse to spoil things for people and I try to avoid them myself. Other big spoiler memory comes from Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken. Do you guys remember that flick? the girl with the horse and she would jump off the high dive? Based on a "true story"? Anyway, I was showing that to someone too, and my dad walked up behind us and asked the "is this before the [SPOILER] part?". I was so angry, I remember yelling at him and crying and being so upset that he had ruined the big surprise twist.

Anyone else have random movie memories like this? Come on, it's slow at the library today - entertain me with your nostalgia!

please?

I think I might have to get this shirt in honor of my little gnome. Because it's so darn true.

OMG I should totally take a screencap of her during battle and make an icon that says that!

I'm such a dork.

EDIT: OMG I did not know about THIS! [livejournal.com profile] persephones_rev, we must get this wee little Boga! He's so cute!!!

Library has been very slow today. BUT I did see one of my buddies from The Limited - Heather! She's really cool and I saw her standing in front of me but her back was to me, and I'm famous for the "wave at the person who turns out not to be who you thought" move so I didn't say anything, I just stared at her like a freak. Then she finally turned to walk away and I was like "HEATHER!" haha. Yes, I'm the rowdy librarian. Very professional.

I downloaded the demo of the 'Bone' game and it was unimpressive. I was so excited because it was an adventure game but the demo is all of 30 seconds so I couldn't tell if I wanted to bother buying it or not. I wasn't happy with the voice work either...more so that the voices didn't match the ones in my head. *sigh* makes me pine for the Monkey Island days...people are always hacking into places and stealing Half-Life code, why didn't anyone hack into Lucasarts and get the Sam&Max game they had started and then abandoned...

Oh, and lunch went better than expected - there was a TON of food in the back; I had a hearty helping of meatballs and a bit of a veggie wrap, then some crumbly cake. My lucky day. I love free food.

go clock go! Only 3 more hours...somebody post a story or some quizzes or something!

Oh man, I stayed up too late playing WoW last night and then, instead of going right to bed, did a lot of wandering around and reading.

I dug out my MiniDisc recorder for the concert tonight and made sure I had some blank discs. We bought batteries at Target earlier this week so we're good to go there. Just have to made AD climb behind me computer desk and yank out the one cord that I'm too lazy to buy an extra of. It plugs my minidisc deck into the PC, but can also be used to plug into the soundboard. I haven't done this in ages...it's been quite a few months since Rockwell Church played a live show near us.

The weather is so yucky this weekend, all cold and rainy. The concert isn't until 9:30 tonight but we're going to try and leave as soon as I get home from work so we can avoid getting stuck in traffic and maybe get some dinner. I hate when the weather is like this, it's so dark outside all day long, I don't feel very motivated. Which is bad since I'm working an 8 hour shift hehe.

don't play WoW with us if you are a jerkass )

It has been INSANE today. I was downstairs on the J desk all by myself from 1-4 and it was nutso. I hardly got thru two pages on my flist. I'm hiding upstairs now, hopefully this "quiet" I've heard about today will continue.

I asked [livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest if he had heard of the anime that had scarred me as a child. And he had. See, when I was like 6 or 7 I saw some anime movie on TV and it had a little unicorn and his friends were turned into little toys and is messed me up. I had a major nightmare that night and I pretty much refused to watch anime for many many years after that. Anime made me nauseous. So I tried to describe the show that I saw to [livejournal.com profile] blu_harvest in an attempt to confront my fear. And he knew exactly what it was and googled it for me. It still weirds me out, just seeing the image made my heart beat a little faster. Anyone else have odd childhood memories that haunt them to this day?

Okay, and I'm never not washing my hair again. The coloring people put the fear of god in me that if I washed my hair every day (like I normally do) that the color would come out. So today I did not shampoo my hair...and you know what? IT'S NASTY!!!! So, yeah, guess the color will be fading faster because I'm not dealing with this tomorrow. ew ew ew.

okay, gonna read the ol' flist now...

Just want to apologize now. I'm at the library and it's nasty weather out. Which means, its freakin' DEAD in here. I've been at the desk not even an hour yet and I've run out of ways to keep busy. So expect memes and rants and anything else I can think of because, yeah, there's nothing else to do. *headdesk* I wish I could take a quick nap...think anyone would notice?

OH!

Okay, so I just checked to see if any of my DCSWCC peeps wanted to get in on some calendar/datebook ordering action, and I figured I'd ask my flist too. Um, this probably only applies to people who live close to me, since I'm figuring group order = save on price and shipping. But the people who make my spiffy LotR datebook have a little deal that if you order 3 or more of their items, you get $3 off each item. Which means instead of paying $12 for the book, it would only be $9, which is more along the lines of what I'm willing to pay.

Anyhoozit, if any of you maryland peeps want in on this 2006 action, let me know. I want to place the order this month so I can start scheduling PTH stuff for next year (the sunday schedules are already waiting). OH, suppose I should give you the website so you can browse - http://www.cedco.com/

oh, and in Jossverse news - the new edition of Slayage is online! Wish it wasn't so many pages or I'd just print the gorram thing out. One of them is from a new book about Buffy, Angel and families. Which I am hoping to get for christmas. Looks like interesting stuff. Always a good read for when you're stuck on the desk.

Not much else doin' today. Working the 5-9 shift at West County today, which has been pretty good so far. It just came to a grinding hault at 8pm though...just kids on computers. No real questions.

Okay, so I was going to write my BDM review today but I'm at work and I left my outline at home. (yes, I wrote an outline, stop laughing at me! There are a lot of complicated things to work thru when discussing 'Serenity').

Yesterday was pretty good. Worked at CRO and it was pretty busy so the time went by fast. Came home and played a bit of WoWz as Skeleta. She's getting there, we're finally in the double digits for her levels. Then we decided to order some pizza from Pizza Hut, which was yummy. Though I have to say, their hot wings are an unnatural shade of orange. Not that hot wings naturally occur but, wow, those were bright orange. They were hot too. But yummy.

We finally watched Ray! Didn't realize how long it was when I popped it into the dvd player - 2 1/2 hours! Yowza! It was good though, I understand why Jamie Foxx was nominated for the oscar. Too bad he didn't win, he really did an amazing job. I felt that the movie gave an honest portrayal of Ray CHarles' life. They didn't try to justify his drug use or his womanizing. They didn't try to make us feel sorry for him. He just was who he was. And, honestly, he was a businessman who knew what he needed to get ahead and when you're that focused on something, you do tend to come off as a jerk every once in awhile. I was also happy to see that they didn't turn him into some huge part of the civil rights movement, as I knew from my research that he hadn't played that huge of a role. Sure, he snubbed the one Georgia gig and got himself kicked out of the state, but that was pretty much the extent of his big rebellious moves. And that's all they showed in the movie too. So I was like *phew*. And it didn't feel long until that last half hour, when you realized that he wasn't even to middle age yet and we had been watching the movie for 2 hours. Which is how the writer/director must have felt too because it all sort of ends abruptly after he gets out of rehab. It's a good movie though. Well put together with a fantastic cast.

I'm at West County today, 1-5 shift...whoa, and the first 2 hours has just flown right by! I really need to stop booking up my weekends though. I noticed that I scheduled myself both Saturday and Sunday next weekend too. BLARGH! I doubt I'll be able to get rid of them at this rate, no one has taken my friday that's the day of Skylor's birthday party that i was invite too.

okay, the frosted mini-wheats are wearing off, I'm starting to get hungry. Only 2 hours left though. And there's cold pizza in the fridge when I get home. mmmmm.
orangerful: (life doesn't suck // orangerful)
OMG I totally roxored over at [livejournal.com profile] natalieicontest this week! Look!! 3 awards!! And one of them is FIRST PLACE! wow. I'm so happy with that.

I've been at WCO today. 12:30-5...and it's been SLOW! But, I get time and a half, so yay! means extra money to spend at RenFest, yes? I was supposed to do some sort of project while I was on the desk...but I couldn't find the stickers.

Found a new CD on the cart in the back. It's a Queen tribute album, with Gavin DeGraw, Jason Mraz, and Joss Stone. Figured I'd give it a listen. Library - it's better than iTunes cuz it's free! haha.

Just helped a little boy find a star wars DVD. I think I scared him. He said he wanted the first one and I tried to explain that the first one was actually called number IV. He had 'empire strikes back' in his hand so I figured he wanted the Luke trilogy. And for some reason, the library shelved them by title and not just "S" for star wars. Go figure!

40 minutes left. I'm very hungry. the fridge will be raided when I get home.

I started up a new Sims family last night. I like to do that when I get a new expansion pack. I used one of the pre-made families because I knew if I tried to design them myself, I'd be up all night. So I took the "Singles" family - two humans and two alien chicks. Bought them one of the new houses that comes with a garage. Of course, I bought a big house and they now have no money and need to go to work, but the jobs they want don't have openings. One of them got invited downtown with a friend, so I had her DJ for a little bit to earn some extra cash. There's a new matchmaker lady that wanders the neighborhood. If you go up to her, she'll make you love potion or set you up on a blind date. The blind-date will cost you though. I didn't have a lot of extra money to spend, so I only gave her 125 simmolians. She laughed at me and dropped this total tool on my front yard. He was wearing a beret for crying out loud! So, yeah, that date didnt' go well.

w00t, 15 minutes to go!

[livejournal.com profile] jimithingy yet again earns his "best boyfriend ever" badge for driving down to the comic shop for me and buying not 1, but all 3 covers of the new Serenity comic.

He roxors my soxors.

Is it 5pm yet?? I want to see the pretty pictures!

edit damian got one, so I got one too My MySpace.
I still don't get it. What am I supposed to do with it? Muscians can upload music, can I upload music?

OMG there is this really annoying woman here right now. She's got like a 2 or 3 year old with her and she's forcing her to play on the computer. It's just so frustrating! I'm sure that little girl would be much happier if her grandma offered to read to her! But no. She's attempting to explain to a child who can hardly speak that she needs to sit still and press buttons to play a game that she is hardly interested in.

And then when the grandma tried to sign on and realized she needed a library card, she complained about that. Then she proceeded to tell us that you don't have to do that at Provinces down the road, which is untrue. Don't argue with us, we frickin' work her.

Anyway, this is NOT what a library is for. Buy your kids a damn PS2 and use the computers for real information. Or at least go to PBS Kids where they can learn something. Especially if they are little. They'll have plenty of time to rot their brains when they are old enough to SPELL cartoonnetwork.com.

*stabs PCs*
Oh great, now their getting DVDs. Grandma is a great babysitter. The little girl just wants some attention, she's following the other little girls around.

I also overheard a sister telling her younger sister to "not get so many books, you look like a geek." To which the sister replied "well, I have a couple DVDs". *headdesk* Be a geek and proud girl!

Okay, remember how yesterday, I said I was working 1-5? Well, this morning, around 7:30, I suddenly had this weird feeling that I hadn't updated my calendar since last week. I tossed and turned in bed until about 7:50, then I hopped up to check and see if I was right.

can I get a d'oh! )

Okay, if the West County library is a whole different planet to Crofton and Provinces, then Brooklyn Park is in a completely different universe. That is where I worked yesterday for 4 hours, which felt like 10. Not because it was slow, but because it was busy.
